I Don’t Hate TV Evangelists! Really. Devo 3-11-11

I don’t hate TV Evangelists!
Really, I don’t! Some have done good work for the Kingdom, live modestly and operate with integrity! Many haven’t. So please, please, PLEASE… do not get the CORE of your theological training from folks on TV!

Timothy did not get his training from some “random guy who could draw a crowd” but from someone with whom he had some history and with whom he had served…. someone “tried and true” …The Apostle Paul.

Paul continues to pour into young Timothy’s life with some “THEOLOGICAL REMINDERS” reminders….

2 Timothy 1: 10-14 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. 13What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. 14Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

He was saying to Young Timothy:

  • Jesus overcame Death and brought life. v10
  • I am suffering for being an apostle and teacher (and you will too) v11-12
  • I am NOT ashamed because I know Jesus and trust Him v12
  • Remember what I taught you, stick to it faithfully v13
  • Guard your heart and don’t turn away v14

PAUL IS SAYING…

GUARD YOUR HEART AND KEEP IT PURE. KNOW WHAT YOU BELIEVE AND WHY…..THEN CLING TO IT FOR ALL YOU ARE WORTH!

That is a pretty good idea for all of us.
